The Chippewas hosted the michigan wolverines Friday night in their first Central region game of the semester. Central had a weak start, allowing U of M to jump out to a 3 - 0 lead. Though leading in shots,m Central could not find the net and their struggles continued midway thought the second with U of M netting two more goals. Facing a 5- 0 deficit, Central regrouped, and got on the board with a goal from Mike Lesnau. Central finally hit their stride and added two more goals from Jordan Jakubik and Marty Lipar. The Chips threatened to tie the game with multiple opportunities in the third, but it was too little too late. the Wolverines evened the season series winning the game 5 - 3. Final score CMU - 3, U of M - 5

Another slow start for the Chippewas saw defending National champs Michigan State Spartans gain a daunting four goal lead in the first 20 minutes. Determined not to repeat the previous game, the Chips fought back, and midway through the second, Tim Martilla slid in a wide angle shot breathing life back into the frustrated home team. Goaltender Mike Jakubik denied the Spartans on a penalty shot and shut the door for the rest of the game. Jordan Jakubik and Mart Lipar added goals, and the Spartans lead was cut to two heading into the third. the Chippewas came out hard in the third with back to back goals from Lesnau and Jakubik in the first 24 second to tie the game 5 - 5. The two teams traded opportunities for the rest of the regulation. Central kept their momentum and with 11 seconds left in OT, Jakubik came in on a 2 on 1 and with a water bottle bottle wrist shot earned himself a hat trick and his team an OT victory against the defending National champs. Final score: CMU - 6, MSU - 5
